Minutes from the Oak Terrace Improvement Association Board Meeting-September 6, 2017

Board members present: Ken Hohs, Dan Griffin, William Yarbrough, Alfonso Contreras, Colleen Hodges, Jim Loring, and Ramona Triebold.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm by Treasurer William Yarbrough in President Greg Denny’s absence.

Ken Hohs made a motion to accept the minutes of the August meeting as reported.  Jim Loring seconded and the motion passed.

Treasurer’s Report-  William reported that as of the last reports received, we had $34,272.68 in all accounts.  There was an outstanding balance of $26,435.10 for a total of $60,707.78 in assets. A motion was made by Ramona Triebold to accept the treasurer’s report.  After a second by Ken Hohs, the motion passed.

Parks- The phone at Beach Park was discussed.  The cost is escalating and there was some discussion of alternatives.  Some members expressed concern about the idea of having a cell phone that only has the capability to dial 911.  Fears of vandalism and reliability were issues that raised doubt.  For now, we will keep our landline and continue to explore more options.  The community pier has 6 boat slips in use.  There was discussion about what to do with the abandoned boat lift in one of the slips.  We will send a letter to the last renter of the slip with a thirty day notice on an invoice for the slip’s rental and a request for removal of the lift.  The tree that was downed there would need to be removed.  We have received two quotes for the cost of the removal.  It was suggested that we get a survey of Lakeview Park to deal with the possible encroachment of a homeowner’s deck and pier on Oak Terrace property.

Restoration Areas- Jim reported that woody invasive removal at Lakeview Park was in progress.

Summerfest- Colleen Hodges reported that Summerfest came in $300 under our budgeted amount this year.  The addition of a pig roast was well received.  For next year’s event, we will need to coordinate a greater number of volunteers/committees.  Thanks to all who helped this year.

Ken Hohs brought up the placement of the buoys off the shore of Lakeview Park.  He feels they are placed too far from shore.  He asked that we check with the attorney about the subdivision’s legal rights to place the buoys on the community owned Lot 1.  William will ask Greg to get clarification from the attorney.  Some discussion ensued about the possibility of having MPRD police our portion of the lake.  It was generally felt that this would not be a favorable action.

New Business- A budget meeting will be set up for Wednesday, September 27,2017 for the purpose of drawing up a budget for the 2018 fiscal year of Oak Terrace Improvement Association.  Colleen Hodges will secure a location for the meeting and send out notice to Board members.

Ramona Triebold brought up the need to find a new editor for The Acorn.  We will need to reach out to our members for a possible volunteer.

There being no further business before the Board, a motion was made by Jim Loring to adjourn.  It was seconded by Alfonso Contreras and the meeting adjourned at 7:43pm.
