Minutes of the Oak Terrace Improvement Association Board   August 1, 2018

Board members present-Alfonso Contreras, Colleen Hodges, Dan Griffin, Jim Loring, Kevin Shifley, and Greg Denny.

Members at large present-Rich Rieck.

The meeting was called to order by President Greg Denny at 7:22pm.

Minutes-Kevin Shifley made a motion to dispense with the reading of the minutes as they had been dispersed prior to the meeting for review. Dan Griffin seconded and the motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report-Treasurer William Yarbrough was not present. He will present his report at the next meeting.

Lake Issues-Greg Denny shared that there had been a widespread algae bloom on the lake. Some blue-green algae was found along with curly leaf pond weed. Sunlight penetration seems to be the most difficult issue at present as there are few plants in the lake. Our beach is tested on the same days at the public beach on Diamond Lake. It is possible that each of the test outcomes are different and while on beach may be closed another on the lake may be open. It depends on where the toxic blooms are on the lake. We need to find a way to be more vigilant about warning residents when swimming is considered unsafe.

Parks-Dan Griffin reported that the sand ordered for the beach had been delivered and spread. He is currently in the process of getting bids to reinstall a backstop at Hansen Park. He also shared that he bid for OTIA on a message board being auctioned by Fremont Township. He was able to win the bidding war with a $306.00 bid and the board will be installed at Beach Park and the one at the park currently will be moved to the corner of Elmwood, Lakeview, and Hickory. This board will be used to disseminate information about issue important to our members. He also reported that he had arranged for someone to do the repairs on our park benches and picnic tables. Dan suggested that we look at a 50/50 split of pier and launch revenue, half for future repairs to those structures and half to the general fund. He also noted that in talking with the township, they would be ending the program of picking up debris, but they would work with us to do one day of pickup for Oak Terrace.

Restoration Areas- Jim Loring reported that ILM was out for another treatment and they feel the areas are looking good right now. Lakeview has some woody brush that has gotten out of control. Jim will contact ILM about this area.

Communications-Kevin Shifley shared that the flyers for Summerfest 2018 had been distributed. He also reminded us to tell our neighbors to share their email addresses with the OTIA to keep current on important information. He will arrange for the message boards to be updated regarding meetings and other pertinent news.

Summerfest-Colleen Hodges shared that all necessary arrangements had been made. Set up volunteers need to be at the beach by 8:30am Saturday, August 4th. It was pointed at the some of our signage needs updating.

New Business-

Katie Eaman has volunteered to produce The Acorn for the subdivision.

We will try to set up a date to meet for the budget before the September meeting. Colleen will see of the meeting room is available on Sunday, August 19th.
