Board Members present: Tracy Kleinschmidt, Greg Denny, Ken Hohs Jim Loring, Colleen Hodges, Jill Bates, and Alfonso Contreras.

Members at Large present: Kathy Komin, Rich Rieck, Jim Snyder, Robin Johnson.

The meeting was called to order by President Greg Denny at 7:03pm.

Charles Bartels, our representative on the Lake County Board, addressed those gathered and shared information about several issues in the county. He stated that the Lake Country Forest Preserves have good accessibility and are ready for winter recreation. The preserves have over 500 miles of trails, bike, and hiking paths, and playgrounds for families. Mr. Bartels encouraged us to make use of these resources. He spoke about the traffic through the subdivision during the work on the CN railroad tracks and said they did their best to divert traffic. He also said he believes that the Rt. 60/83 overpass is still about 12-13 years from fruition.

Bill Grinnell, Fremont Township Road Commissioner, spoke about the possibility of flooding and runoff if the overpass goes through. He stated that they are looking for a letter of intent from the state to deal with the runoff.

Diana O’Kelly, Fremont Township Supervisor, shared that there is a limited budget for roads and that repairs are being made as quickly as possible. She stated that the township is looking into the possibility of consolidating services in order to negotiate better rates for our unincorporated areas, like Oak Terrace. She is looking for township residents, from unincorporated areas, to volunteer for a committee to investigate these options. Supervisor O’Kelly shared that the food pantry at the township office is stocked and available to residents that are in need of assistance.

Tony Rodkey, Public Safety Officer CFPD, shared that the district had won a grant to provide smoke detectors to some of the areas of the district. The Stand Up and Stand Out Grant will provide 200 smoke alarms with 10 year lithium batteries for district residents in need. He expects to received these detectors in spring of 2018. He reminded everyone to check their smoke detectors with the time change.

Firefighter Rodkey also shared the rules for opening burning in Countryside’s District:

  • 25 feet from any structure
  • 50 feet from schools and roads
  • No burning on roads for any reason
  • May only burn landscape waste generated on your private property
  • Maximum burn pile is 3 feet X 5 feet
  • Must burn during daylight hours only
  • Must have a water source at the site of the burn

Mr. Rodkey asked that if there were any questions, they be directed to the non-emergency number for CFPD.

President Denny thanked our guests and asked for William Yarbrough, Treasurer to present the budget that was sent to our residents. William shared that the dues would remain the same as 2017. With some modification for cost of living increases, the budget has remained largely the same. Ken Hohs made a motion to accept the budget as presented. Jill Bates seconded and the motion passed.

Colleen Hodges, Secretary, reported that there could be no announcement of the final tally for the election of Board members at this meeting as the post office box had not been checked on the day of the meeting. It was decided that for next year’s meeting, the ballots would be directed to the home of the OTIA Secretary to be brought to the meeting for counting. The results of the election, once verified, will be posted on the subdivision website.

There being no further business. William made a motion to adjourn. Joe Fedro seconded and the motion passed.

The meeting adjourned at 8:12pm.

Respectfully submitted by Colleen Hodges-OTIA Secretary
