Minutes from the OTIA meeting of August 6, 2014.
The meeting was called to order at 7:01pm by President Greg Denny.
Board members present: Dina Lepczynski, Tracy Kleinschmidt, Jim Loring, Greg Denny, William Yarbrough, and Colleen Hodges.
Greg shared some information on an issue with the hedgerow at Beach Park. The resident adjoining the beach property has complained about the hedges being overgrown. Dave Garcia was asked to trim the hedges and the work has been done. A more permanent solution was discussed. The hedgerow would be removed and a the fence at the entrance of the park would be extended down the lot line. Al Johnsonbaugh and Jim Loring will contact the resident to see what her preferred handling of this issue would be and the board will make the final decision.
Tracy made a motion to accept the minutes as presented. Dina seconded and the motion passed.
Dan Griffin was not able to attend the meeting so not treasurer’s report was available. He will report at the next meeting.
Dina reported on the success of Summer Fest. We had over 100 people attend this year. She will adjust the food numbers for next year. The event went over budget by $193.83. Ideas for next year include finding more volunteers and setting an ending time for the fest. We had more participants in the fishing derby this year and we hope to add a fishing clinic for next year. The raffle prizes went to-$100 Meridy Neiderkorn of Maple, $50 William Yarbrough of Hickory, and $25 Dave Reese of Lakeview . The cardboard boat race was won by the team headed by Dan Griffin. The board thanked Dina for all her hard work.
Lake issues- The Diamond Lake Preservation Foundation will be meeting on August 13th. They will host several speakers discussing the health of Diamond Lake. Speakers will include: Kenneth Funk from a preservation group in Lake Villa, Bill Grinnell of Fremont Township, and Sarah Zink of Integrated Lakes Management. Any interested resident may attend the meeting or email Tracy and Greg at [email protected]
.
Parks- The removal of the stairway at Lakeview Park is complete. Bill Grinnell brought in riprap to lay for drainage. The drainage pipes that run under the street may be a a problem as one is crushed. Greg will talk to Bill about this issue. Jim reported that ILM has done maintenance on all three parks and has one more quarterly to be done including removal of woody plant material in the fall.
The OTIA Board received a letter of resignation from Radu Roman due to time constraints. The board accepted the resignation and thanked Radu for all he has done for our community. We hope to work with him again in the future.
Legal- The shed on the Welle property encroaching onto OTIA property has been moved. The split rail fence needs to be moved closer to the property line as soon as possible. Al is getting bids for this job. Collections are ongoing and we have received a few more overdue payments in the last month. The Thatcher residence on Elmwood and Willow did not combine pins for the three lots owned. They are resisting paying for all three lots. A letter will be sent from our lawyer.
Dina will email Bill Grinnell concerning the property leading from the trailer park to Elmwood that now has no trespassing signs posted.
Dina shared some calls she has received from residents with property adjacent to one on Walnut. There are rodent and flooding problems at a home on Walnut. Diana O’Kelly will be contacted to see what our possible resolutions to these problems may be. It was also reported there is a house on Lakeview with car storage issues.
There was a discussion on the feral cats in the neighborhood. William shared some information about an organization that will spay the cats to keep the population under control. Spay and Stay is the name of the organization.
There being no further business, Dina made a motion to adjourn. Tracy seconded the motion and the meeting adjourned at 8:14pm.
Respectfully submitted by Colleen Hodges-OTIA Secretary
